Sawgrass Properties sponsor 'La Mondiale' in her Translantic World Record

On 17th January 2008 at 20.35 GMT, 'La Mondiale' completed her Translantic voyage in 33 days 7 hours and 30 minutes, breaking her own record by 2 days!

'La Mondiale' and her Irish & British crew have beaten the Translantic Rowing Record of 35 days, 8 hours and 30 minutes. This record was set in 1992 by a French crew rowing the same 'La Mondiale'. Although there have been over 60 attempts during the past 16 years to do so, no rowing boat & crew have achieved this until now. The new record stands at 33 hours, 7 hours and 30 minutes.

At the same time, La Mondiale won a unique challenge from multihull ocean rowing boat 'Orca' of a Translantic Rowing Race, between the two boats, of an east to west crossing of the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Barbados. It is the tried and tested design of  'La Mondiale' which triumphed over the new technology of the smart, light but smaller multihull design of 'Orca'. The Race has determined which is the fastest boat across the Ocean.

To the 14 amazing oarsmen, every single one of them deserve praise second to none. From the first stroke of their oars in the Ocean at Mogan, Gran Canaria to the last stroke at Port St. Charles, Barbados, they pulled staunchly to achieve their goal and what a victory is is for them to have broken a Record held for 16 years.

Many congratulations to 'Team Mondiale.
